A JavaScript library of choice

May 15th, 2009

I am digging around the ‘net a lot these days, trying to learn about the differences between the various JavaScript libraries out there.

I’ve only ever used MooTools for custom stuff (ie. more than just dropping in SlimBox or SmoothGallery on a page), and find it incredibly easy and very satisfying to work with. It allows me to quickly add a responsive UI to my code without having to write everything from the bottom up.

In my research, I came across a very interesting post from Aaron Newton over at Clientcide: jQuery, MooTools, the Ajax Experience, Programming to the Pattern, and What Really Makes One Framework Different From Another about MooTools vs. jQuery and (of particular interest to me) how code reuse also has its merits when dealing with JS libraries and UI code. Generally, his blog is filled to the brim with interesting views on user interface design and coding, and is highly recommendable.

Meet my daughter

May 11th, 2009

Phew – a month has already passed since Maria gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Luca.

I can’t even begin to describe how it feels to have such a little person around you. Anyone who has children will obviously understand. It is simply a unique, lifechanging experience – just like everyone said. But to me it feels universally unique to me, to us. She is beginning to show sparks of her personality and smiled to me the other day for the first time!

Anyway, I hope to be blogging a bit more from now on, but lets see. It’s not as if I’ve gotten more time on my hands now than before :-)

Pictures of our little princess are here.

- and no, I don’t mean this site, it’s actually been more or less functional for a while now.I mean the website that I’ve just finished to promote sales of our home here in Copenhagen, Andel i Sydhavnen.dk.It’s in Danish of course, but have a look. I’ll probably write a post later about the webtechnical details of it, because I thought it was pretty fun to create and work with.

Pidgin win32 cross-compiled

July 26th, 2007

I’ve handbuilt a new MTN win32 build of Pidgin. It is cross-compiled on a Debian-box, so very different from how it was formerly built. It seems to work OK, though. New builds aren’t automatic yet, but until they are, I’ll upload new ones here once in a while. Let me know if you have problems with the new builds.
